Blackburn House was built by George Moncreiff in 1772. Perhaps the archetypical Scots “Lad of Airts an’ Pairts”, Moncrieff was a self-made man, with his wealth being made (probably dubiously by modern standards) from Antigua at the height of the sugar and spice trade. The building has a fascinating history, passing through a colourful range of owners. |
